The details are hazy, but Rothko was allegedly born in February of 2006. When he was found huddled in a plastic cage at the NYC ASPCA on March 21st of 2009, he had been given the undignified name "Josh".
Clearly, for a creature of his prowess, this was an oversight. So, to reflect the gravitas of this fine feline, a more fitting name was given to him: Rothko, after a certain painter.
